
A geothermal HVAC system provides both heating and cooling by transferring heat between a building and the ground through a water-filled underground loop. During the winter, the geothermal heat pump draws usable heat from the ground and moves it indoors. In the summer, the process reverses, removing heat from the building and transferring it back into the ground.
Because the system relies on stable underground temperatures rather than outside air alone, it can provide consistent year-round performance. Geothermal heating and cooling systems may use water-to-air units connected to ductwork or water-to-water equipment serving hydronic heating and cooling systems.
